Hereford is a small city with
ancient origins set in a region of beautiful countryside
known as the Welsh Marches.
The city has a great deal to
offer from the unique historical insights of the
Cathedral and Mappa Mundi Exhibition, to excellent
restaurants, shops and the theatre. You can set
out on the scenic Wye Valley Walk from the house,
or any number of footpaths in the surrounding
countryside.
Hay-on-Wye is 20 miles away and
a good day out for second-hand books, collectables
and a brisk walk up the edge of the Black Mountains.
The Elan Valley consists of a
series of marvellous Victorian dams set in breathtaking
mountains. Walk the footpaths through ancient
woodland and visit the Red Kite feeding centre
on the way home.
Take a beautiful drive down the
Wye Valley to see the ruins of Tintern Abbey.
Visit the shops, have tea and cake, and then if
you feel up to it, take the footpath up through
the woods to Offa's Dyke Path and the Devil's
Pulpit.
As a base for exploring Wales
and The Cotswolds, we couldn't be better situated.
Wales is just a few miles away with its stunning
scenery and many castles, and the Cotswolds are
just as easily accessible in the opposite direction.
In fact, Hereford itself falls within the western
boundary of the region known as the Cotswolds!
To the right are some links to
places you might want to visit during your stay.
It is by no means complete and reflects our interests,
which are mainly walking, nature and wildlife.
There are of course gardens to visit, and hedge
puzzles, and much, much more. We will add more
links as we find them.
